"Underwhelmed and Overmined"

Election '08 - losing faith

October 22nd, 2008 9:48 am MDT

The American people re-elected George Bush in 2004 and held in place the WORST enemy to the US Constitution that has ever resided in the White House. My beloved GOP had pretty much marginalized Ron Paul, the best friend the US Constitution has had in the Federal Government in over 150 years,  despite his campaign having out-performed financially, in grass-roots support, and in bi-partisan support any other candidate in either party. It's not unlike the Democratic Party denying Hillary Clinton her delegates from Florida and Michigan insuring an Obama victory by a small margin.  Don't get me wrong, Hillary is no saint.  I mean, she has almost as many skeletons in her closet as the Kennedys do; and I certainly DO NOT AGREE with her positions.  At least we know who she is, though.  Maybe that's why the Democrats did away with Democracy to stack the deck in favor of Obama:  little to no history.  Well, except for very obvious ties to radical left-wing extremists (Ayers, Wright, et. al.)In truth, the only positive thing I can say about this election cycle is that we Republicans at least nominated a man with morals, ethics, and sound character.  Someone whose run for the Presidency is the capstone of a long and successful career in Government.  Someone whose only "skeleton" was the S&L scandal in the late-80's but whose legislative history following clearly demonstrates he has learned from his admitted mistake. The Democrats, however, have appointed a candidate whose past is nearly a complete mystery.  Who has either deflected his skeletons or disavowed them only when politically expedient.  Someone who has had their eye on the Presidency since his first entry into the State legislature only a few short years ago.  Someone whose campaign, when looked at under a microscope, has been bathed in deceit (using public/private funding despite saying he wouldn't), self-aggrandizing, and more aggressively negative than even Karl Rove had waged. So, why does Barack Obama have the support he does?  Well, he's very charasmatic.  More so than even Ronald Reagan or Bill Clinton.  People love Obama because he makes them "feel good" and gives them hope but I have yet to meet the Obama supporter who doesn't ignore "inconvenient truths" or doesn't get nearly hysterical when their idol is viewed in anything other than loving admiration.  It's as bad as the Bushies who still claimed he is "one of the best Presidents" in history despite the eroding of the Constitution and the US crumbling all around them.I can think of two other politicians in contemporary world politics whose "cult of personality" helped launch them into the highest office in their countries:  Mussolini and Hitler.  I can only hope that after the lemmings elect him to the Presidency while his party controls the Congress, that Obama won't do as much damage to us.I think the thing that bothers me the most about this election cycle is the further damage to the GOP.  These Neo-Cons who have been steadily hijacking the Republican party and taking it farther away from it's Conservative roots since Reagan are almost certainly going to have control over it for some time to come after McCain's defeat.  After all, their influence coincided with the only two-term GOP Presidencies since Nixon.  And the only moderate Republican since then, George HW Bush, the only GOP White House since Nixon where the Neo-Con influence actually decreased, was just a one-term Presidency despite his economic policies having set the stages for the Clinton prosperity.  No, in November the message will be sent to Republicans loud and clear:  The Neo-Cons are their only hope of not seeing the country run by so-called liberals.  The GOP is as good as dead to me.With Obama being certain of winning the election, and the Neo-Cons almost guaranteed of cementing their influence, it is time for me to change parties.  I'll keep wearing my McCain Tee-Shirts and leave up my road signs; but my vote will go to Libertarian candidate Bob Barr; not only because he is the most philosophically sound candidate on the Florida ballot, but also as a vote against the Two-Corrupted-Party system.2010 might also be the year that a member of the most marginalized minority in the US who also has a long history of drug use and has been convicted of three misdemeanors throws her hat into the ring.  I may be unelectable, but I can no longer sit idly by as the lemmings blindly follow their way into the utter destruction of the greatest country in history.

You must not be paying attention to what McCain is saying and doing right now, or you have overdosed on gop koolaid, to say something like that. His littany of lies and distortions prove he has no morals, or ethics. And you must not have watched the debates, as his character was on display the whole time, and it surely didn't look sound to me. More like a lunatic in fact!

I also find it kind of sad that you would consider passion and drive to be an earmark of, how did you put it, "lunacy".  It wasn't until the fourth debate that Senator McCain even began to fight despite a nearly constant barrage from the most negative campaign in the history of American politics (even compared to "swift boating" and "Willie Horton") What I find the most troubling, however, is that you would focus in only on attacking Sen. McCain and accuse me of some sort of cult-like affinity for the GOP when I have clearly stated I believe George W. Bush to have been the worst enemy to the US Constitution ever to occupy the White House, criticized Rovian campaign strategy, mocked the "Bush can do no wrong" crowd, expressed fear over the growing influence of the NeoCons on the GOP, and have clearly stated that I am defecting to the Libertarian Party where I intend to be VERY active to the point of being willing to destroy any hope of transitioning into "Stealth" I have. It seems one of may have been drinking some GOP-related KoolAid but it hasn't been me and it probably wasn't a "Pro-GOP" mixture.
