Oooh Caaaasey!

June 20th, 2007 6:11 pm MDT

Well, Ah reckon you missed your exit, pardner!  This here is trans country, yessiree!  URnotaliberal is back down the road a stretch.//  I hold these truths to be self evident:  1.  No not all GOPers are meanies, but 2. the mainstream of conservative opinion and elements of the Rep. party platform are strongly opposed to the nefarious agenda of the godless tranny hoardes.  3.  Bush is a devious ass-clown//  Trouble is your stuck #1 and #3, when #2 is the only one relevant to the mission of this site.  Broadly speaking these are issues of eliminating barriers to personal expression versus legislating "morality".  And that issue is among the starkest left/right distinctions in the US.  You wanna discuss the IMF and WTO, I might just agree with you--but not here.//  I hear ya!  You are now like "But, but, I just told you I've seen off-topic liberal opinions here!"  True, that.  Most of it of the #3 "bush is a devious ass-clown variety" (though I wouldn't jump to quickly to conclusions of personal politics on that basis--there's substantial bi-partisan consensus on the matter).  But there's a surprising amount of irrelevent right-wing grandstanding, too.  Case in point, you.  The key difference I note between the two viewpoints on URNA isn't so much which opinions are more numerous or less topical.  The difference is of where and how these views are expressed.  Your post highlights this with blinding clarity and precision.  For this I thank you.//  You plainly state that the liberal drivel you have been forced (forced, I tell you!) to stomache is all in profiles.  That's a good place for it, don't you think.  It is, after all, where is supposed to describe oneself.  If politics are central to your identity, you may wish to alert others of your sympathies there, whatever they be.  If I choose to make my profile an anti-mullet tirade, fine--and it's a service to the mulleted, who can save themselves the trouble of trying to communicate with me.//  The reactionary claptrap, though, is usually posted in discussion areas, and inevitably adopts the same formula you chose:  "Why are there so many damned pinkos here" grumble, grumble, etc.  Pure pot-stirring/troop rallying stuff.  It has zero credibility as social critique, when the thesis statement is actually criticism of the membership--whether collectively or individually.  Pointless and pathetic.  Post the stuff in your profile, then lie back and wait for the legion admirers who will doubtless rush to your banner.  Or not.

Cloud 999

Posting this, I guess, because they are the kind of entries I most respond to, and comment on.  I'm "out" at last!  More out than Michael Bolton's mullet.  And it's in-effing-credible!! <RETURN>  I've been expecting this moment for a long time (sometimes eagerly, sometimes fearfully).  Just not the kinda thing to slip into a conversation--"Lovely weather we're having, and BTW . . ."  But last month I FINALLY left enough clues for a friend to connect the dots.  So she asked, and I answered  (I've refused to lie about myself for years, but usually happy to avoid the issue).  And it wasn't the question I expected (like about crossdressing) but the $64K question--"have you thought about transitioning?"! <RETURN>  So . . . in for a penny, in for a pound.  In recent years I've isolated myself so much that really I have meaningful contact with only three couples.  Now that one of them knew, only two to go!  Took care of couple #2 last night.  Couple #3 was my parents.  Did the "confession" ;) to them this morning--in person and unscripted.  <RETURN>  Nothing but love, baby!!  I'm ashamed how much I could have underestimated the people that love me.  My parents in fact told me I have to transition.  For real!  And I didn't even mention that possibility, or that I had ever considered it.  I just described my personal dilemma and mental state, and immediately they said transitioning was the solution!  They said I can't continue "this" existence.  My father, on leaving, said "today is the first day of the rest of your life"!  He did add "son" but that's a minor quibble :) <RETURN>  I can't tell you how blessed I am.  I wish all of you one day as beautiful as today has been for me!

Spring

March 13th, 2006 7:27 pm MST

I wrote a little song this weekend, which goes something like this:<RETURN>SPRING! SPRING! SPRING!<RETURN>Spring, spring, spring, spring, spring!<RETURN>SPRING! Spring! Spring!<RETURN>Spring, SPRING!<RETURN>It's an a capella sort of number. Mindyou I've copyrighted it.  But private performances of this song (in the absence of a paying audience) are strongly encouraged. :)

? for the Man(agement)

Jon/Dan:  Have you considered including recency of "comment" as one of the criteria for front-queing journal entries?  Since they drop of the immediate radar in a day or so (and that pace will vastly accelerate) you may encourage more revisits by giving prominence to topics that broadly resonate/provoke comment, rather than the latest "Yay, FedEx delivered my VS panties today!" <RETURN> Understood that people may try to "game" any system, and that this proposal could be readily manipulated by frequently commenting on one's own entries!  But the same can already be done by posting 3-4 entries in a row (as has been demonstrated).
