The witching hour returns....

Well, its been a long time since I posted anything in here! Reviewing my recent (!) relatively speaking entries, the majority have been some general bitching and moaning about the chatroom. Oh dear, it looks as if I am about to resume the series. I know that keeping this site up and running is a huge load for the webmaster; the existence of the site, and all the community facilities is appreciated beyond words..... but there's something in the chatroom that keeps on breaking! Each evening, between hours of 11pm and midnight Pacific Time (2am to 3am Eastern time), the chatroom returns the error message "authentication failed" on attempting to enter. This happens every night, as from about 10 days ago, and is a consistent, repeating effect (in other words, not intermittent, or random, or spurious). It's just nice to relax after a long hard day and talk to the regulars before going to bed... but the room periodically breaks down, and always at this time! I write this in the probability that this peculiar little techie gremlin has gone unnoticed, since it always happens when most folk are fast asleep on the East Coast! Here ends the rant :P

Dan's going to be taking a look at this to see if he can figure out what's causing it. It started a couple of weeks ago and we haven't changed anything with the Chat Server or it's configuration, so it's kind of odd, making me think that it's more likely related to a browser update that was released recently by one of the browser vendors.
Normally, we'd suggest the following:
The message "Authentication Failed" when trying to enter Chat normally means you have a bad cached version of the chat entry page.
To fix it you can go into Options and Delete all Temporary Internet Files and all Cookies or, at a minimum, all Cookies for urnotalone.com. Once you've done this, you shutdown your browswer and restart it and it should fix the problem.
