The Best Deep Dish Pizza You Aren't Eating in Columbus

    Dan™ A Saint James May 22nd, 2008 11:12 am MDT

I've been craving Chicago Deep Dish Pizza for a while. Lynne took me to Pizzeria Uno over by Tuttle, and it was good, but not great. Then Sarah told me about Fabian's on High Street. I've driven by this place a dozen times and hadn't thought twice about it. Some people have a preference for the style of Pizza. New York Style, Chicago Style, Midwest Style (which is apparently small, tasteless and cut into fucking squares). I tend to like it all. Good New York slices of pie can't be beat, but sometimes, you just want a nice stuffed deep dish Chicago Pie, and Fabians has it. Seriously. I haven't had a deep dish pizza this good since I was last in Chicago. And apparently no one knows about them. The place was mostly dead. Some regulars at the bar and maybe two other couples eating pie. I actually had a chance to talk to the Chef. I complimented him on his pie and told him I would tell everyone I know, which is why you are here now If you love Chicago Style Deep Dish Pizza and need a good local place, go to Fabians. If you've never had it but are curious, get your butt there. Seriously. It's a bit more than regular pizza, but you can generally only eat two pieces and that means left overs. I'm eating a slice right now. MMMM. It's just as good as it was last night. So get your fucking asses there, try it out. If you like it, make sure you tell EVERYONE you know. I can't always drive to Chicago for good pie, and now I don't have to!

    Blast from the Past

    Dan™ A Saint James May 21st, 2008 8:43 am MDT

My 20 year High School Reunion is coming up (yes, I graduated when I was 8. Shut up). Anyway, I was wandering around the reunion website and I stumbled upon my 5th grade self.

Seriously. I don't even remember this one. 5th fucking grade. Sheesh.

My best friend from Elementary School Julie Blosser, and my best friend from Junior High School, Beverly Farmer, have convinced me that I should go to our reunion.

Get this. It's a kegger in a field. Seriously. It's August 2d, so I still have time to back out. I still have this nagging feeling that next year, there may be a memorial float for me in pride.

    Expelled the Movie

    Dan™ A Saint James April 25th, 2008 9:28 am MDT

The nimrods from "Expelled " have a MySpace page. They were actually dumb enough to put up a poll "Should the theory of Intelligent Design be taught in schools?"

Please go vote and let them know that you think.

    Chat Room Changes

    Jon April 23rd, 2008 10:25 am MDT

Yeah, we know, a lot of people are pissed off that we're requiring either a Silver Level Profile (which is Free) or a Subscription to enter Chat now.

We did this because, over and over again, people have asked us to put more stringent requirements in place to keep the Trolls and all around Jerks out of the room. Allowing people to enter Chat without a Completed Profile just let people be too anonymous and too many Jerks were using Chat just to harass and annoy people.

We really see no reason for complaints. You can still use URNA Chat for Free, however, you do have to be willing to complete your Profile and upload a Main Pic that is clear, that shows your face and that goes to your waist. It's a pretty simple requirement and anyone, who wants to, should be able to come up with a picture that meets our requirements.

For those who just aren't willing to show themselves to the world, there still should be no complaints. Since you're not really contributing by populating and completing your Profile, then we're asking you to contribute Monetarily by Purchasing a Subscription. I could understand a complaint if the cost of a Subscription were high, but it's not, it's well under $10 per month (currently $5.95 per month after the 1st month of $7.95). Sorry, but if you can afford a Computer and an Internet Connection, then you should be able to swing that. If you can't, you can always complete your Profile with a Pic that meets our Requirements.

    24 Hour News

    Jon April 8th, 2008 7:17 am MDT

I hate 24 hour News Channels like FOX and CNN, yet I listen to CNN all day while I work (I work from home). Go figure.

The problem with 24 hour News Channels is that they have to have something to talk about, so, they make news. 2 things I've heard on 24 hour News Channels over the last few days especially pissed me off...

    1. We will be covering the Olympic Torch Passing and we will have News Crews there to cover the expected protests.

    2. Man is Pregnant.

Number 1 above pissed me off because they're basically telling people... "Hey, if you want to be on TV, get over to the Torch passing event and start protesting and we'll film it all and you'll have your 15 minutes of fame". It creates an event that might otherwise not have happened. It would have been enough to say... We will be covering the Olympic Torch Passing and their will be News Crews there to bring it live to you. There was no need to say the News Crews would be there to "cover the expected protests".

Number 2 above upsets me because they are deliberately giving the impression that a Genetic Man is Pregnant. It's simply not true and the headline is designed to suck you in and listen further. The headline above is in regards to a Pre-Op Female to Male Transexual who is pregnant. She never had SRS and still has her Reproductive Organs. Now, if the headline said Transsexual Man is Pregnant, it would lose much of the audience. They are deliberately misleading people to grow their audience. Never mind the fact that they're turning it into a Freak Show.

Anyway, now that I've gotten that off my chest... hope everyone's having a nice beginning to Spring!

    Easter Eggs!

    Dan™ A Saint James March 21st, 2008 10:42 pm MDT

You might ask yourself why a godless atheist would paint Easter Eggs. Let's face it, nothing about the Easter tradition has ANYTHING to do with JEBUS. Bunnies, eggs, chicks, plastic grass, chocolate eggs.

I take a perverse satisfaction in being able to celebrate a "high holy day" that has no trappings of the religion that claims it. Sort of like xMas but better!

Anyway, Lynne and I stayed in tonight to paint Easter Eggs, snuggle, drink and watch movies. Tomorrow night is the monthly TParty at the Pyramid Club. Since pOutland stopped Karaoke on Sundays, it's my favorite night.

Arthur C. Clarke dead at 90

    Dan™ A Saint James March 18th, 2008 8:15 pm MDT

Goodbye my childhood friend. You made me think about the world. You made me wonder. You made me thirst for more. I still re-read the paperback worlds you took me too, dog eared from their years in my pockets. At your feet, I met others. Asimov, Heinlein and through them, Galileo, Copernicus, Newton, Darwin, Einstein, Hawking and more.

You contributed more than stories. You made three generations of us dream. You opened the world to my questions.

I will never leave the legacy to the world that you did. In many ways, my legacy IS your legacy.

I would say that the light of the world is a little dimmer without you but that would be a lie. It shines brighter than ever thanks to people like you.

The Real Cost of the War

    Dan™ A Saint James March 4th, 2008 8:37 am MST

Wether you support the war or not, it's hard to argue with the numbers that are coming in. There have been over 4300 US casualties and probably three times at many Iraqi deaths (not including civilians and non-combatants)

You can stick your fingers in your ears all you want but the actual financial cost of this war is staggering.

I'm not the kind of person to say "I told you so"... oh wait, yes I am.

    XBall Detroit

    Dan™ A Saint James March 3rd, 2008 9:00 am MST

    [click for photos]

Lynne and I were in Detroit this weekend for the XBall, which happened to also be our Birthday. Overall, we had a good time. The Exotica Party is probably better, especially considering the main attraction is Emily Marilynn. That might actually be worth attending.

Vena is a total sweetheart, and a lot of fun to hang out with. We met some interesting people and a good time.

In the end, I guess my final review is: "Well, it was Detroit". I was nice to not be in Columbus for a change. I don't know that I'll be attending many events in Detroit but Exotica still seems like a possibility.

    Laugh Out Loud

    Dan™ A Saint James March 3rd, 2008 7:53 am MST

Nascar Nextel Cup driver Dale Jr. recently launched a new candy bar, Dale Jr.'s Big Mo', through R.M. Palmer Company. The name Big Mo' is a play-off of Earnhardt Jr.'s hometown of Mooresville, N.C., and the longtime moniker used for him and his closest friends, the Dirty Mo' Posse.

The candy bar will come in two flavors - creamy caramel and peanut butter. It is scheduled to hit stores in January.

For those of you that don't know, "Mo" is also short for homosexual, as in, "Dan's a Big Mo". A fact that was lost on most of the customers at Marathon, but wasn't lost on about three of us in line.

Man, I'm going to start calling MY friends the "Dirty Mo' Posse".

I haven't laughed this hard in a while.

    Imagine

    Jon February 27th, 2008 1:31 pm MST

Imagine a world where people were judged by who they are rather than by what they look like.

Imagine a world where there was clothing... not mens clothing and womens clothing... simply clothing.

Imagine a world where people shopped for clothing and picked out what they liked because they liked it rather than because a man wears this and a women wears that.

Imagine a world where makeup was for whoever chose to wear makeup and one's sex played no role in the decision.

Imagine a world where people behaved the way that comes natural to them, rather than because a man behaves like this and a woman behaves like that.

Imagine a world where people paired off based on mental and physical attraction and one's sex only came into play for those who planned on procreating.

Imagine a world where people who paired off in same sex relationships had just as much right to adopt a child as people who paired off in mixed sex relationships.

Imagine a world in which job applicants were chosen based on their abilities and not by their sex or their appearance.

I really believe we'll get there someday. Distinctions are blurring between the sexes, albeit slowly. I think we have hundreds, if not thousands of years to go. I wish I could wake up 10,000 years from now and see if we've made it.

    My 29th Birthday!

    Dan™ A Saint James February 27th, 2008 6:01 am MST

Hey kids, as most of you know, March 1st is the annual celebration of my 29th birthday. Since Lynne was also born on March 1st, we decided to celebrate together out of town. We'll be in Detroit. On Friday, Feb 29th, we'll be hanging out at Gigi's Showbar, a great drag bar with tons of transvestites. On Saturday, we'll be attending xBall!

Don't think that means I won't be spending the month of March celebrating my 29th like usual. We've decided to throw a party here at the manor on the Saturday March 8th! As usual, come anytime after 9 pm. Please bring some booze, a mixer or a snack. Cocktail party attire is encouraged but not required. We expect that some people will be staying for the durations, others will be heading out to clubs. By all means, stop by and say hello!

This is my first Birthday with Lynne. We just celebrated our 9th month together, and our 2nd month living together. I'm very fond of this one. Come help us celebrate!

    Lunar Eclipse - February, 2008

    Jon February 21st, 2008 10:45 am MST

I took a slew of pics of the Lunar Eclipse last night between 9:45pm and 10:15pm EST. I put together a collage with shots taken over those 30 minutes. It was cooooooold out on the roofdeck when I took them. Considering I took them hand held with virtually no light, they came out pretty damn good, if I don't say so myself. I used a lense with built in Vibration Reduction, a Nikkor AF-S 18-200 3.5-5.6 G ED, on my Nikon D70.
