FIRST EVENT 2008: SOME FEBRUARY THOUGHTS
February 6th, 2008 5:35 pm MST
February 2nd is Ground Hog Day. I'm sure you all know the story. If the groundhog sees his shadow there is 6 more weeks of winter. If the groundhog does not see his shadow then spring is almost here.I've often wondered, what type of IDIOT cam up with this concept? Have you ever seen spring start at the beginning of February? There may be global warning but spring at the start of February?I regret to tell all of you that this year, 2008, the groundhog ended up with a different result. The groundhog came out of his burrow, saw my main picture in URNA this month and committed suicide. Funeral services will be conducted today, video at 11 P.M.
FIRST EVENT 2008On Wednesday, 16 January I picked up my girlfriend Brenda Sue at the airport in Providence in the early evening and we proceeded to the Sheraton Hotel in Peabody. This was the new site for First Event. Brenda flew in from Chicago and this was her first First Event. We were met at the hotel by our girlfriend, Jackie, who had come down earlier in the day. She helped us get into our rooms.A bunch of us girls freshened up and went down to the restaurant for dinner. I was quite tired from a long day and was very hungry, but also wanted a drink! Right off the bat I was impressed by the hotel staff's professionalism and courtesy. It was quite obvious that this year's hotel staff was given some corporate sensitivity training and the staff took the lessons to heart. Last year many of the staff at the previous hotel acted like the circus had come to town when they saw convention participants. They were rude. The food at dinner was also very delicious. We ended up closing down the restaurant/bar.On Thursday we welcomed many of our other friends. For me, these conventions are more of a social occasion now rather than an informational quest. I've attended many of these seminars in the past, plus I know everything anyways! HA HA HA, that's a joke everyone! I was very fortunate in that Jackie's friend (and now mine) Bobbie was attending First Event. He is a professional hair stylist and so I was able to have my hair look its' best every evening. THANKS BOBBIE YOU ARE THE GREATEST BABES! We then got prepared for the Dinner/Costume Ball. Since I did not get out on Halloween this was my chance to make up for it. My roommate, Jackie Thompson, went as the cutest cowgirl you have ever seen and I went as a cheerleader. YEA RA RA !Even though the organizers did not say there would be a contest, I think many girls were under the impression there would be one. There was not. Had there been I think my girlfriend, Tiffany Starr, would have won it hands down. She went as a red, girl Dracula. YIKES!One gentleman admirer was there and shared our dinner table.. He got up to perform after dinner and was a very talented impersonator. He was also quite charming and funny as well. Later in the evening, while I was prancing around, I saw a sign board for the Leahy Clinic seminar of "Sleep Disorders" in the front lobby. You can see me sleeping with this sign:-) Dinner was nice and we all got some dancing in.The next day I woke up at 11 A.M. I've grown to like breakfast in bed at these events. Expensive? Perhaps. I like doing this since I normally do not do this when I travel. It also allows you more time to rest. My roommate Jackie T also liked it as well.Sometime the early bird girlfriend or two pops in to chat. Annette Brunette came by and proceeded to take my pic in bed. OH NO ANNETTE! HOW COULD YOU? She later photo shopped me into bed with the two life size plastic dolls at Dr. Z.'s party! Thanks Annette:-( I've never had such great sex in my life! *Giggles* On Friday we wandered around the vendors' area and attended a couple of seminars. Since I do assist many others I decided that the workshop on coming out to children was a good workshop to go to It was nice to hear from others but I felt the presenter should have presented more of her own thoughts and ideas on the matter since she was a mental health care professional.Friday evening many of my sorority sisters in Sorority Sisters of New England, and I, went out to dinner at the No Name Restaurant in Boston. Jackie picked out a great seafood restaurant.I know that many girls only want to go out to "alternative" establishments. I grow tired of this self imposed segregation as a steady diet. If the transgendered community is looking for acceptance in the wider world then we need to "show the flag" and go out into the rest of the world. Our presence can educate the public into acceptance. I'm not going to hide in closets anymore. Besides they are too musty! Are we ashamed of ourselves? Our $$$ is just as green as anyone else's! Our intrepid group included Jennifer Lane, Jackie Thompson, Brenda Sue Faulkner, Denise Armel, Jean Warren, Taylor Stephnz, Tiffany Starr, and myself. When we got to the restaurant two of the waitresses recognized Jackie and I from a previous visit last summer. Is that good or bad? Maybe it was the 5" stiletto heels, black fishnet stockings , and the micro min skirt. HUMMMM:-0The waitresses were thrilled to wait on us 8 girls. They gave us the best seats in the house. We all had delicious seafood to eat. The other patrons did not even bat any eyelash at our crowd. Dress for the occasion is the rule. Later we went clubbing. The night was topped off by a visit to Dr. Z's famous, or infamous, suite party. There is always enough free liquor to float a battleship! At about 3 A.M. I was in a rather silly mood. I like convention pics, but not the usual, run of the mill, sitting at a table, or standing in a hallway photo parade. I suggested to Jackie that we go to the Exercise/Weigh Room and take some goofy photos. You can see them in my new gallery. It was a blast and no one was around. The pics are unique! You can also combine those with the previous evening's, "Girls On The Luggage Cart" picsOn Saturday we tore around the the site and had a nice time. For dinner all of us SSofNE girls sat at one table. There was Jennifer Lane, Jackie Thompson, Annette Brunette, Brenda Sue Faulkner, Denise Armel, Sherry Colah, and myself. The dinner was quite nice and later we danced the night away. They even ended up ripping up the temporary dance flooring from underneath us at the end of the evening! The evening ended up back at another Dr Z suite party. On Sunday I drove Brenda Sue back to the airport for her to catch her evening flight. We had dinner at a nice restaurant south of Worcester. I wanted to avoid I-95 since there was a big game for the Patriots being played down at Foxboro. She got off on time.I want to thank everyone for a great time. My sorority sisters are the best and Jackie you are an awesome roommie
!
I'm already planning on 1st Event 2009!

So Jackie helped you get in your rooms eh......Were you allready sloshed , you and Miss Sue when you got there? Ha, ha.
Shame on you waking up at 11:00am! What went on the night before....Hmmm? Did you enjoy yourself with the two dolls that much? I can tell that i'm gonna have to come over and stick a pin in those two, leading a sensible lady like you astray like that!
On a more serious note though, i agree with you wholeheartedly when you talk about the transgendered going out to "fly the flag" in the world. Yes, i feel many are reluctant to stray from the safe confines of the community. Perhaps some have good reasons for doing so. You are right, to be accepted in the world you must partake in the world. No risk, no gain as they say, and top marks to you all for going out there, carrying yourselves with pride.
Seeing you in 5" stillettoes, black fishnets and stockings, would have made a huge impression on me also! .......That dont sound too good does it? he,he.
Enough free liquor to float a battleship in?! Hey, you can count me in on one of these get togethers sometime. Having all that fun without me!
