" is living out her happily ever after!"

For those that have gone before...

March 27th, 2006 12:40 pm MST

A few years ago, I was out with friends in downtown Vancouver and saw a beautiful tgirl standing out on the corner of Thurlow and Davie. She was stunning, a young Chinese girl wearing a short skirt, long coat, and pink platform boots. She was 100% pretty and passable, though admittedly the boots were a dead giveaway.
I remember being in awe of her, not only her looks, but also her courage in being out in public like that. To this day, I still don't know her name, but she was a huge influence on me. I was just a closetcase back then, and seeing her out on the street corner like that made a big impression on me. In many ways, her boldness opened the door for me to make a similar journey myself.
I still think about her often. Vancouver is such a hip, left coast city. I feel so lucky to live here. I go out all the time now, and I really don't try to hide or blend. I honestly think that if a visiter comes to Vancouver, they *should* see hot trannies out on the town, especially on a Saturday night. Getting out and being seen is my social/moral obligation! Haha!
More recently, I was out with some tgirl friends and found myself hailing a cab at that same street corner, Thurlow and Davie. It was a warm evening, and there were lots of people out on the streets. I was wearing a short skirt and 4" heels, and we were literally stopping traffic. A car full of guys was leering at us, with horns honking behind them. What fun!
...and I remember taking a moment to look around at the faces in the crowd. I remembered the young Chinese girl and wondered: wouldn't it be cool if there were another closeted tgirl in the crowd looking the same way at me?

  • Out in public Teri Lynn November 29th, 2010 11:44 am MST Dear, there will always be those "other" girls out seeing you in public.  Just as that Chineese girl encouraged you, so you now are an encouragement to other secret sisters.  Keep being that example and do so with a big smile!  I've been to your lovely city many times (have relatives in Surrey) and may see you one of these days.  I'll check that intersection next time I'm in Vancouver. Hugs, Teri
