I've been away a lonnnnng time, but do remember all the activity around Member of the Month. (Negative and Positive)
There have probably been hundreds of posts about it, but I don't really have the where-with-all to go back and read them.
You had a Member of the Month that you chose to recognize 
for their contributions to the site. That, I feel, is a great route to take and to encourage postings and contacts with other members.
Members who take the time to connect with Newbies are an asset and help to build your membership. If new people join, they get a 'warm fuzzy' when they are welcomed by current members and are more apt to get involved.
Much programming would be involved (yeah, that's all you need right now).. ie, Most informative posts, interaction with other members, chat session visits, etc.
They are the heartbeat of URNA and deserve to be recognized for their unconditional commitment to the excellence of your site and member involvement.
I wish you continued success and SOMEDAY INDEPENDENT WEALTH!!! for all your hard work.

The Charity Coronation was a huge success and more $ were generated through this year's program than ever before ... all of which go directly to Charity.
