Purple America
Dan™ & Erin™ November 7th, 2008 3:03 pm MSTFor those of you who still think that the election was close, take a look at these two maps. One shows the counties in their actual size shaded blue or red based on what the population voted.
This map shows each county with a size set by the population. It looks a lot less red.
This is far more of the mandate the George W Bush claimed four years ago, this is a landslide. For those of you that fear a socialist government, let me just state the following:
1. Socialist nations like Denmark, Normay, Sweden and Holland have:
I've heard a lot of people claim that Obama was a socialist. He's not. I wish he was, but I would have been no more enthusiastic of his candidacy.
Be that as it may, why would socialism be so scary anyway?

Halloween has always been my favorite holiday
Dan™ & Erin™ October 20th, 2008 1:50 pm MDTHalloween has always been my favorite Holiday. Godless heathen that I am, there aren't many holidays that don't have the flavor of one of more gods tainting them. That's all right. I love Solstice decorations, and even some Christmas decorations (I usually have angels on my tree). Easter is fun because of coloring eggs and candy. I guess you could say that I enjoy some holidays that have been co-opted by religions in spite of that. Halloween though has always had a special place in my heart. There isn't a related religious holiday to be seen. It's all about dressing up and having fun. A final harvest festival to usher in the cold snowy months. I just got news that is going to make Halloween even better for me. I just got a notice from the Clerk of the Court of Common Please, Franklin County Ohio, Domestic Division. After six long irritating years of playing silly buggers in the court system, the judge has finally lost patience and is going to grant me an uncontested divorce! My children and I haven't even SEEN their mother is eight years! I always celebrated Halloween in Boston with the drag queens and transvestites. It's always a really fun time. I've been planning a "Bachelor Party" to coincide with my divorce. I think this is going to be an annual event! Anyway, I'm excited. The only fly in the ointment is that I am supposed to be in court at 9 am and my flight for Boston is scheduled for 1:20 pm the same day, so I may have to see about pushing it back. Either way, I'm pretty excited!

What I wrote My Congressman regarding the US Economy
Jon October 1st, 2008 2:11 pm MDTI've been so disgusted listening to the Talking Heads spew bullshit on what needs to be done to get the Economy going again that I decided to write My Congressman. I encourage everyone to do the same, whether your view is in line with mine or diametrically opposed to it. Here's what I wrote My Congressman.
I'm writing to ask you 2 things and also to express my opinion.
1. Please Vote NO on any Tax Payer funded Bailout, of any kind, for Banks and Financial Institutions. As a Tax Payer, I do not want to see my Hard Earned Tax Dollars going to help out Companies or Institutions that have made irresponsible decisions. Large Firms should be treated no differently than Small Firms. If they can't stay afloat on their own, they should be allowed to go under.
2. Do NOT use my Hard Earned Tax Dollars to Subsidize the Mortgages of others. If a person was irresponsible enough to take out a Mortgage larger than they could afford then they should be foreclosed on. People must be held responsible for their actions. It would be grossly unfair to use My Hard Earned Tax Dollars to help pay off someone else's Mortgage. I have a hard enough time paying My Mortgage and My Monthly Bills without the Added Burden of Subsidizing someone else. Taxes are not levied by our Government to Redistribute wealth and it Offends me that it's even being considered.
My opinion on what should happen going forward...
1. Banks should require Substantial Down Payments before rewarding a Mortgage.
2. Banks should Verify Employment and Yearly Income before rewarding a Mortgage.
A comment on 1 and 2 above... This is what Banks always did until Our Government, towards the end of the 1990's, started pushing Banks to loosen their requirements so that more people could own homes. Well, guess what, not everyone can afford to own a home. I think that's pretty clear now and should have been obvious from the beginning.
3. Financial Institutions must be held responsible for the types of Financial Instruments they buy and sell. If they bundle up Worthless Sub Prime Mortgages into Financial Instruments and then can't sell them, well, that's life, they should be stuck with them. If it causes their Collapse, so be it.
To sum it up, Corporations AND Individuals must be held accountable for their actions. Using My and other people's Hard Earned Tax Dollars to Redistribute the Wealth to help the Rich OR the Poor, goes against everything this country stands for and the thought of it makes me sick to my stomach.

FInished My Read
Joe October 1st, 2008 9:33 am MDTIt's done! I finished "A Peoples History Of The United States-1492 to the Present" by Howard Zinn. I've been reading this since Fathers Day, given the book a break when it got to thick to slog through and when the book just disappeared for extended periods of time.(The cats took it) Any way...I recommend this to everyone with an interest in our American political and social system.[Comment on this post]

Surviving Ike
Alexandra MacGregor September 29th, 2008 9:07 am MDT2 weeks after Ike battered SE Texas and after a week offshore I'm finally back home and it is nice to be somewhere that practically can't get hurricanes (only if it is a very rare southern one). I have to say it was an experience to weather out a hurricane and especially a direct hit. Thankfully I was on the western side of Houston so we didn't get hit by the full ferocity of the storm but still had a hell of a clean up. No water for 2 days and no power up to the point I left for the rig a week after. I feel sorry for those still without power. Definitely glad I wasn't in Galveston or on Bolivar. From what little I saw in the aftermath these areas got hammered. The official death toll I fear is far too low considering the damage. I hope that it really is low but instinct tells me it will be much worse. However, that said they were told to evacuate so if they stayed they only have themselves to blame. That said Ike was an oddball. It was a Cat 2 storm according to the wind speed at ground level but had a Cat 4 storm surge and Cat4 to 5 winds at about 100ft. And it's shear size made it an abnormal storm in that respect. At 600miles across it practically filled the Gulf of Mexico. So you did have to think if you evacuate where the hell do you go to? Anyway, it's finished and the clean up/repair is well underway. Really hope everyone gets back to normallity as soon as possible and people can get home and rebuild. i for one will not be sticking around next time if I can help it. Hugs to all affected by Ike xxxx[Comment on this post]
job hunting
Nicole Colette September 25th, 2008 9:14 am MDTWell its been awhile, I'm currently job hunting in Toronto and I have to say its been pretty trying so far. Today I have my first group interveiw and I'm just so frazzled trying to decide what to wear and how i should act. I wish it was over already so I would know if i Have the job or not. In other news I now only wear girl clothes all the time minus my breastforms, so I look like a flat chested First Nations Indian lol. At some point I plan on redoing my pics to reflect what I actually wear out and about. Also right now I'm applying for a apartment in Toronto. I hope I get it, right now I'm staying at my best friends place but i really need my own space. My thanks to anyone who takes the time to read this, and wish me luck I think I'm gonna need it. Hugs & Kisses Nicole.[Comment on this post]

And they say women can never make up their minds!
Alexandra MacGregor September 5th, 2008 9:00 pm MDTAs I am stuck in limbo waiting to go back to the rig it makes one wonder why people think girls can never make up their minds. Hanna seems to know exactly what she's going to do but Ike is bimbling along not sure where he's going. Is he going East or West of Florida? Is he going to weaken or strengthen? Don't care just as long as he makes up his mind and the powers that be here can decide to send us back to work. http://www.nhc.noaa.gov if you want to see for yourself xxxx[Comment on this post]
NC Pride Sept 26 27 28
Emma Sloan September 5th, 2008 2:33 pm MDT This weekend is probably going to be a waste since we'll be having rain, rain, and more rain due Hurricane Hannah making landfall. And next weekend may not be much better with Hurricane Ike closing in and Josephine right behind him. Oh well, I have my hurricane supplies, fresh mascara, lipstick, nail polish, wine, nylons, and a new bottle of Tangueray Gin. Yes, there is food things, flash lights, and lanterns too. Perhaps someone will be having a hurricane party,... The last weekend of the month is NC Pride which looks to be a fine weekend with lots of events in the local cities. Dinners, parades, meet and greets, dancing, and friendly people everywhere. Hopefully the hurricanes will stay away since I want to attend as many of the events as possible. Last thing is about the fake event last weekend. Seems that person had been very busy sending out emails from multiple accounts. The result is her scam has pissed off probably every Tgirl for 100 miles each direction. Everyone I know had some sort of notification of the party, from URNA, from Yahoo, from Craigslist, or direct email when she knew their address. I suspect things are going to be tough on the poor girl. It is one thing to mess with a few people but the Annual Labor Day Transgender Fashion Ball or Transfest she advertised to be hosted by the Raleigh Area Translady Society did get a lot of girls attention. Especially since she told everyone it would be a fall pageant with the areas top transexual ladies. So show up for a night full of prizes, musical entertainment, and fabulous gowns. There was supposed to be dinner and floor shows in the main ballroom with door prizes and an evening gown contest. Everyone was encouraged to get or share a room at the host hotel. Only problem was the hotel staff (good friends of the REAL Raleigh Tgirls) didn't know anything about an event. I do feel bad because at least one girl drove 125 miles to attend. Yes,.. it going to go hard on the faker when she is seen out in town again,.. Everyone, even those who didn't come to town are pissed,..[Comment on this post]

Rebecca Aine September 4th, 2008 7:43 pm MDTThere are so many wonderful transgender conferences to be a part of, from Fantasia Fair, to Southern Comfort to Vermont's Translating Identities Conference (TIC). All the conferences are terrific opportunities to make friends, come out of the closet, and above all, just be yourself. Many thanks to everyone who works hard behind the scenes at all these conferences to plan them, work them, and make them happen. The Fake Social
Emma Sloan September 2nd, 2008 6:09 pm MDTI had a strange experience this weekend which started with an email invite by a Tgirl from URNA. I had seen this local person's profile but never had any contact. So when she announced a Tgirl group in Raleigh I was a bit surprised because between myself and my friends we thought we knew most everyone. Even more intriguing was the location of the social, our own favorite downtown hotel bar. There were several red flags, but I was a bit intrigued if maybe there were other Tgirls in our town that I didn't know. So I forwarded the invite to a few special friends and asked if anyone knew this girl. My message was sort of miscommunicated as an invite to this special party and that is where it gets strange. One of my close friends sent this person an email and received back a message telling about having an eveing gown event in addition to the dinner and social. As it happens I was going out on Saturday to meet friends so I responded that yes, I would attend the social. To make this short, no one but my friends showed up at the hotel bar, our bartender never heard about any group event, and some of my friends were not only a bit pissed, but offended that this person would pull this kind of crap. I'll be sending an email to Jon asking if there have been any other complaints about this member, but should she show up at one of our many regualar hangouts it might not be a pretty picture. I just don't see how another Tgirl on URNA could play such a silly game. But for your reading please, here is the original invite and let me know if being stood up was a special insult to my friends and myself. But have no concern for our Saturday night,.. we had a good time at the hotel bar (always do), at the club we met a lot of friends and danced, and danced, and danced,.. Then later at another place met some more friends and even made some new ones,.. What is almost funny is we're known by every bartender, every doorman, every DJ, the hotel staff, the bar and restaurant owners so no matter where we go, we have friends. I wonder if this person will have the nerve to show up at any downtown place,.. Ok, here is the email,... Hi there ladies. Do not be alarmed at this email. One of your lady friends has given us your emails address and we just want to in invite you to a local event this weekend in downtown Raleigh. We are a local group of discrete transgendered and cross-dressing ladies that meet several times a year in the Raleigh area. Your friend thought enough of you to include you in this group and it is an honor to be asked to attend our meetings. We try and keep things very quiet and only invite ladies that are looking to meet other ladies and enjoy an evening of entrainment and fun at a local hotel. We always pick hotels that are t-girl friendly and can offer some degree of comfort for our ladies. This year we are meeting at the clarion hotel in downtown Raleigh. They offer enclosed parking and several exclusive areas just for us including a bar area that has an exquisite view of the Raleigh sky line. This is a fun environment for any ladies that want to come join us for a fun time and meet other ladies with similar interests and passions. Many of the local Trans woman and performers from the local clubs attended. It is a fun evening and is open to all ladies that can behave in public and need a comfortable place to meet. Please come join us this Labor Day weekend and have a gala time with the ladies. We are meeting Saturday the 30th about 800 pm. This is after dark and will afford all our shy ladies a chance to get out after dark. If you would like to get a room for the evening, the group rate for this sat is $89, and you can remain totally anonymous, dress I your room and join us in the bar.We will meet there from 8 until 10 and then we will have a late night dinner at 10 pm If you care to attend in guy mode the first time that is fine. Many girls are shy at first and we love to meet new shy ladies. After dinner we usually have a show and then we have some activities for the bold and the timid. Usually we have a live performance in the meeting room form some of our local t-girls and then we visit the local bar scene for drinks and meeting men. Let us know if you would like to attend and if you will be getting a room for the evening and we can put you in contact with some of our ladies if you would like adjoining rooms. Please let us know ASAP if you would like to attendThe theme for this meeting is: lace lace. The ladies of theRaleigh area trans-ladies societyPs: all your information and correspondence is totally confidential and your information is only available to you and ladies that you want to correspond with. We are very discrete for obvious reasons. If you are a bit shy that is fine, we have several ladies that just dress in the room and you may attend in guy mode if you so desire. Many of the ladies attend in guy mode and then retie to their room with a lady for the evening. Several ladies only dress in the room and have members come meet them for intimate times. If you are a local guy and would like to meet a local lady for a fun evening just respond and tell us what types of ladies you are interested in and we will let you know when they are available. We are a very open and loving group. Always play safe and wear your rubbers. If you would like to be taken off the list just say so in your response.[Comment on this post]

Thoughts on Religion
Kimberly Elise August 21st, 2008 5:50 am MDTJust a note so there is no misunderstanding...if you're religious, I'm glad your religion works for you. But your religion is a private matter, so please don't try to convert me. I am quite happy the way I am. If anything changes, I'll call you. What are my beliefs? I'm basically an agnostic. Additionally, I'm interested in Buddhism and Hinduism, and have read some of the writings of J. Krishnamurti. I know this sounds kind of nebulous, but the fact is no human being can say for sure where we all came from and why our universe exists. As the author Geoffrey Wolfe once wrote, "We really don't know who we are, or where we have come from, or what we have done, or why." If you have read this far, log onto parabola.org. It's a great website (and magazine) which represents all faiths.
