It seems like the reverse of what I thought would happen happened. I thought that maybe more girls than guys would like my new hair and my new look, but the overwhelming positive responses have been from guys. That's kind of cool because it's telling me I'm doing something right, so thanks guys!

I feel as if some of the girls might not see me in the same light anymore. I'm no longer part of their conception of a glamourous woman or part of their little crossdresser club because i gathered enough courage to better myself and take my look to a whole new level. This is MY OWN HAIR, boys and girls, and it feels so much better when I'm out in public than sweating like a pig underneath hair extensions or a wig!

I also have enough courage to wear my hair short, too, not try to look like someone's odd notion of a Hollywood starlet from the 70s with their long flowing hair that's designed to hide the face more than frame it.

So you can love me or you can hate me. I don't care. I'm doing all of this for myself and those who are wise enough to see what I'm doing will follow my lead.

It's been three weeks since I got my hair cut and I announced to everyone that I was going to get my hair cut again. "What?! You just got it cut!" they said. True, but this is not a length cut; it's a bulk and layer cut. Big difference. Less bulk on the top of my head means I could make my spiky looks stay up better. A lot of bulk in the hair just adds weight to it and makes it limp no matter how much pomade and hairspray you use. Between my punk rocker "Sonic the Hedgehog" look on October 1 and my "Wolverine" look on October 8, I got a bulk and layer cut. That's why my successive hairstyles for the next month or so were successful.

    .

If you haven't noticed already, now that my hair is ultra-short, I've been parting it to the other side. In October to November, I've been parting it from left to right, but after my length cut in mid-November, I've been parting my hair from right to left. It just happens to lay better right to left with the new hair cut. I learned some time ago to part your hair on the side of your dominant eye, so if you can raise your left eye higher than your right, you would part from left to right. I don't really have a preference. I'll part my hair in whatever direction a situation calls for.

As I sit here on a lone December afternoon, I search my hair for grays and whites. I think I snipped out 40 hairs so far, about one per year of my age. That's not too bad. I usually see people my age with a full head of gray hair or no hair at all. I guess I'm afraid to look old. The big four-oh is only two months away. I don't feel any older than before. I'll just have another decade behind me. Considering the fact that I was only supposed to have a 42% chance of living beyond five years of my 30th birthday, I think I had a pretty good decade. I achieved all of my goals: I got married, had a child, bought a house that's almost paid for, bought a sportscar, earned a six-figure income, built my dream music studio in my house, got my music on MTV, and, oh yeah, without even knowing it became some kind of idol to thousands of people. I've been blessed and I thank god for it every day.
