Snapping the Thread

August 3rd, 2006 8:18 pm MDT

On the edge of the green leaf
a caterpillar thread dangles,
supporting the world.
We stumble by, lost
in raging conversation
beneath the overcast and radiant sky,
earth wet with the smell of rain.
Economies of scale recede
in the presence of this light.
The fuzzy one spins on, the world
his in a way we can never know,
we who measure and divide,
naming all the creatures, trading
freedom for dominion
and bitching about the weather,
heedlessly snapping the thread
supporting the world.

Re: Snapping the Thread Veronica August 3rd, 2006 9:42 pm MDT I absolutely adore all your poems. This one beautifully voicing the callousness we humans often fall prey to in our daily concerns with our technological backgrounds, conclusions, sophistications, and cynisms. Little do we notice or take the time for mother nature's simple wisdom all around us, such as found in our little but not insignificant friend, the caterpillar. Truly lovely Ernie, as is all of your works posted. I am proud to know you my friend!
