Remembrance during September 2006
August 26th, 2006 10:58 pm MDT
As September comes around this year in 2006, we are all not only reminded again about the terrorist attack in New York but the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina on the Gulf Coast. As a resident of a city decimated by Hurricane Katrina, I have found out in the past year what is truly important to people in need.............. It is important to know that when you have lost all of your personal possessions you are more concerned that your loved ones are safe.............It is important to know that we as American citizens care as much about our own suffering masses as much as others in countries around the world............................When government fails to respond, no matter what the reasons are, it is important to know that we as human beings take actions to alleviate and end suffering...........................It is important to know that above all, people who suffer from natural disasters need their respect and dignity left intact. They do not need to be paraded on news networks and talk shows to increase profits and ratings..........................I find that what I thought was a struggle in life was nothing compared to the victims of Hurricane Katrina. As a transgender woman, I have traveled a long and ardous road to find my true self both outward and inside. I have encountered prejudice, scorn, lost friends and relationships. In looking back, it has all been a cakewalk compared to the continual hardships still occurring in the Gulf Coast................. I count my blessings everyday now and hope people will continue to pray for everyone affected by the loss that Hurricane Katrina continues to create........In closing, please continue to give to the American Red Cross and its hurricane relief fund.................Thank you for taking the time to read this post...............................
