Ubuntu

I made the following post in response to Dans PC and Mac comparision. The quote by Desmond Tutu sums it up. I think the concept deserves its own top level post. And the concept is not really about what computer you use. Windows is bloated beauracacy. Macintosh is elitist. Linux/Ubuntu is the future of true, free, unfettered human interaction. A person with ubuntu is open and available to others, affirming of others, does not feel threatened that others are able and good, for he or she has a proper self-assurance that comes from knowing that he or she belongs in a greater whole and is diminished when others are humiliated or diminished, when others are tortured or oppressed. Desmond Tutu Please do not confuse this concept with Communism where the State and Party is more important than the individual. J

That's a mis-categorization. That's not what communism is. That's only the way it's been implemented.

Re: Ubuntu Joanna April 14th, 2008 3:24 pm MDT Thanks Dan, I'll agree with your statement. Nothing is ever implemented the way it is planned out on paper.  Speaking  the concept of Ubuntu would also make a great revolutionary front  for someone to hide beind while trying to implement tyrany.   In our Denocracy, all you need is a lot of money to buy politicians and implement tyrany in certain areas of culture or markets. In the end it is the participation of the population in whatever the political process is.   ... Only kindness matters.

Re: Ubuntu Spirit June 3rd, 2008 8:41 am MDT Hi hun!  3 comments, if I might? First, communism, as beautiful a sentiment as it is, can not REALISTICALLY be considered as feasible.  The system requires conscience and ethics to function as its architects intended.  These are qualities that we strive for.  They are goals, not attributes.  One cannot realistically expect even the majority of the populace to possess these traits, which we often cite as the reason exceptional people are exceptional.  So I think your portrayal of communism portrays the system with greater reality than Karl Marx's manifesto.  Capitalism, as ugly as it is, works because it counts on people being greedy and self interested, not good.  That's always a safer bet.   Second, I like LINUX but I'm curesed to love Debian, which is slightly more difficult than a Tgirl with a hangover and tight shoes.  The OS is robust and great, but the GUIs all need a bit of TLC.   Third, you're great and really smart and I'm glad we're friends.  :) hugz
