A lesson in the way of things...

Tonight
I went to the house of a woman living alone in a house on the bay
widow of a best friend died a year ago
he never knew about "me"
and i'm not sure he would have understood
but we always talked about music and art anyway and that
he wanted a viking funeral since he knew he was dying
and while he never got a flame arrow into his boat
what he was burned high into the air
carried a scent into my beliefs
she made drinks
even though now the lonely house screams silence without the music he cherished
as the stereo feels there is nothing left to say
even though the things he loved and collected
wither and are forgotten among boxes and estate sales
on the street
on the street where I walk sometimes my face in the wind
where the tears dry quickly
