Goodbye my childhood friend. You made me think about the world. You made me wonder. You made me thirst for more. I still re-read the paperback worlds you took me too, dog eared from their years in my pockets. At your feet, I met others. Asimov, Heinlein and through them, Galileo, Copernicus, Newton, Darwin, Einstein, Hawking and more.
You contributed more than stories. You made three generations of us dream. You opened the world to my questions.
I will never leave the legacy to the world that you did. In many ways, my legacy IS your legacy.
I would say that the light of the world is a little dimmer without you but that would be a lie. It shines brighter than ever thanks to people like you.

I'm actually in the middle of reading First Born, the 3rd book of the Time Odyssey Trilogy written collaboratively between Arthur C Clarke and Stephen Baxter. It's a shame, I also grew up reading Arthur C. Clarke and 2001, A Space Odyssey, had a major impact on how I looked at the Universe. It's actually a large part of why I even started looking at things as The Universe, rather than The Earth.
I wasn't always the biggest fan, but I credit him with getting the ball rolling. If it weren't for Arthur, I'd probably be a preacher somewhere.
Interesting little tidbit that many people probably don't realize. He actually won recognition and some kind of big award (which one, escapes me at the moment) for being the 1st to suggest using Satellites for Communications.
